Title: Tupolev Tu-22 Blinder

The Tupolev TU-22 (NATO reporting name “Blinder”) was designed as a supersonic replacement for earlier Soviet bombers such as the Tu-16 and first flew in 1959. It was quickly found that its performance and range were not as anticipated, and in addition it was found to be difficult to fly and maintain. It was therefore only built in small numbers, a total of just over 300 being produced over a 10 year production life.

To enhance its usefulness it was adapted for other roles including reconnaissance and as a missile carrier. It was exported to Iraq and Libya, and unlike in its motherland Russia, in both cases it saw actual combat. It was largely withdrawn from Soviet service at the time of the break-up of the Soviet Union, all the Iraqi examples were destroyed either during the Iran war of the Gulf war, and the Libyan examples ran out of spares at the turn of the century.

This title contains the flight manual in English for the Tupolev Tu-22 (probably produced for the export customer in Iraq or Libya) plus a selection of volumes from the Russian Technical Description Manual, some complete and some incomplete, but are included as they provide a lot of detail on this very secretive aircraft. The files have been scanned from the original manuals unless otherwise stated.
