PIASECKI H-21 SHAWNEE (FLYING BANANA)

$9.95

Title: Piasecki H-21 Flying Banana No’s 1 and 2

The H-21 was developed from the earlier HRP-1 naval transport and rescue helicopter, the first US helicopter with any significant transport capability. The HRP-1 first flew in 1945 but only 28 were built. Piasecki offered the USAF an improved version of the HRP-1 with all metal construction and a larger engine, and known as the H-21 this first flew in 1952. The helicopter was specially designed as an artic rescue helicopter and incorporated features allowing operations at extremely low temperatures.

The H-21 was flown by all US military services, and also found success in the export market with a number of air arms, including Canada, France, Japan and Sweden. The aircraft saw service in the early years of the Vietnam war, but generally performed poorly in the hot tropical air. Most had been withdrawn from service by the end of the 1960’s.

We offer two titles covering the Piasecki H-21 series including flight manuals for the HRP-1 and most variants of the H-21 series, including the Canadian manual, along with four technical brochures. The files have been scanned from the original flight manuals and retain any colour pages. Each title is US$9.95.
