Title: Piaggio P108
The Piaggio P108 strategic bomber was the only four engined bomber used by the Italian air force during WW2, and was also one of the few Italian aircraft whose performance was comparable to equivalent allied types. It first flew in 1939 and entered service in 1941 but was built in too small numbers to have any effect on the war effort.
It incorporated a number of advanced design features including remotely-controlled gun turrets but this also made it a more difficult aircraft to master. There were a number of accidents, one of which killed the son of the Italian dictator. Only 30 odd examples were built, and those remaining after the Italian armistice were taken over by the Luftwaffe and used as transports.
