Title: MIG-15

The MIG-15 was the first successful post-WW2 Russian jet fighter and first flew in 1947. It was only made possible as the British Labour government at the time wanted to foster closer relations with Russia and sold them examples of the Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet engine, along with a licence to manufacture the engine. Up to that point none of the German derived jet engines available to the Russian aviation industry was reliable or powerful.

The aircraft was developed in great secrecy, and therefore when it was revealed to the West over the skies of North Korea in 1950, it came as a very sudden and unwelcome surprise. It was an extremely capable aircraft, able to mix it with any Western aircraft and much superior to the straight winged jet aircraft them employed on the Korean front-line, and the US was forced to rush the F-86 into the Korean War. The reason the F-86 ended up with a much better kill ratio is really due to the quality of the US pilots and their training.

The aircraft was very popular in the export market, and over 13,000 were eventually produced, the most of any military jet aircraft. The type was also manufactured in Poland, Czechoslovakia and China.

This title contains two flight manuals in English covering the MIG-15 and three scanned Russian publications covering single and twin-seat variants. The files have been scanned from the original flight manuals unless otherwise stated.
