Title: Lavochkin La-5 and La-7
The Lavochkin La-5 was developed from the earlier LAGG-1 and LAGG-3 designs by replacing the in-line V12 engine with the more powerful ASh-82 radial engine and first flew in March 1942. It was immediately successful and placed into production, with nearly 10,000 eventually being built.
The aircraft was one of the most capable WW2 Russian fighters, able to match the German adversaries in most areas. It was found to be inferior at high altitudes but equal at lower altitudes, which is where most air combat took place over the Eastern Front.
The La-7 was a development of the La-5 with detail improvements including lighter airframe, re-located oil cooler, re-located engine air intake, new propeller, new gunsight, etc. The La-7 first flew in 1944 and over 5,000 had been built when production ended in 1946.
This title contains the Russian flight manual for both types, a technical description manual for each, and the Aircraft Profile covering both. The files have been scanned from the original flight manuals unless otherwise stated.
