DOUGLAS DC-1 and DC-2

Title: Douglas DC-1 and DC-2

the Douglas DC-1 was produced in response to a request from TWA Airlines who needed a competitor to the Boeing 247, whose production was exclusively reserved for United Airlines. Douglas was initially reluctant as they weren’t sure they could get the production run of 100 needed to cover development costs but in the end it proved a very wise investment. Only a single example of the DC-1 was built and first flew in 1933, production immediately shifting to an enlarged version called the DC-2 which first flew in 1934.

The DC-2 was the first aircraft to show that air transport could be comfortable, safe and reliable. 192 examples were built, including 62 for the US military, before production shifted to the further enlarged and hugely successful DC-3. The DC-2 famously came second in the 1934 MacRobertson London-Melbourne air race, beaten only by a purpose built racing aircraft.

We offer two titles containing the flight manuals for the Douglas DC-1 and DC-2 aircraft, along with a maintenance manual and a nice early manufacturer’s brochure. The files have been scanned from the original flight manuals and retain any colour pages. Each title is US$9.95 each.
