Title: Avro Type 621 Tutor

The Avro 621 was an all-metal conventional biplane intended to replace the Avro 504 as the basic trainer in the RAF. The prototype known as the Type 621 Trainer first flew in 1929 and initially used the 155hp Armstrong Siddeley Mongoose engine. Two batches were ordered by the RAF for service trials, which selected the type as the standard RAF basic trainer with significant numbers being ordered. Production aircraft used the 215 hp Armstrong Siddeley Lynx engine, usually fitted with a townend ring cowling, and were known as the Tutor.

The type was exported widely to other military air arms, and examples were built or assembled under licence in Denmark, Greece and South Africa. Nearly 800 were produced in total, but a single example remains today, maintained in an airworthy condition by the Shuttleworth Collection.

This title contains the RAF military handbook for the Tutor and the manufacturer’s civil Instruction handbook for the Avro Type 621 Trainer along with a manufacturer’s publicity leaflet and a NACA aircraft circular. The files have been scanned from the original documents and retain any colour pages.
