HEINKEL He70

Title:  Heinkel He70

The Heinkel He70 was designed as a high speed mailplane for Lufthansa and first flew in 1932. It was designed for low drag, with an aerodynamically efficient elliptical wing with flush rivets, retractable undercarriage and a small cooling radiator using glycol as the cooling fluid. Most of the 324 examples built were used however by the Luftwaffe, initially as a high-speed reconnaissance aircraft, and later as more specialised aircraft became available, as a liaison and courier aircraft.

The design was scaled up to become the He111 bomber, the most numerous WW2 German bomber, and scaled down to become the He112, an unsuccessful competitor to the Messerschmitt Bf109. Examples were used by both the Hungarian air force and the Spanish air force, the last of the Spanish aircraft serving until the mid 1950’s.
