WESTLAND WELKIN

Title: Westland Welkin

The Welkin was a development of the earlier Whirlwind twin-engine fighter designed for very high altitude operations, using the more reliable Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and a very high aspect ratio wing.

The design was intended to address a perceived threat of high altitude bombing, but by the time the aircraft first flew in 1942 the threat had not materialised and there was no real need for the aircraft. Only about 75 complete examples were built and none saw operational service.

This title contains the RAF Provisional Pilot’s Notes for the Westland Welkin, and to give value, also contains the RAF Pilot’s Notes for the predecessor of the Welkin, the Westland Whirlwind I, along with the Air Publication Volume One for the Whirlwind, and the Aircraft Profile for the Whirlwind. The files have been scanned from the original flight manuals and retain any colour pages.
