The C-46 was first flown as the CW-20 airliner in 1940, and then ordered into volume production by the USAAF as the C-46. The C-46 was the largest and heaviest twin-engined aircraft to serve with the USAAF during WW2. Considerably larger than the more well-known C-47, the empty weight of the C-46 was more than the fully-loaded weight of the C-47. A total of 3,180 examples were manufactured during WW2 and they continued to serve with the USAF until the late 1960’s.

  • Manufacturers Pilots Manual for the CW-20, dated 1940 with approx 13 pages.
  • USAF Preliminary Flight and Operation Manual for the C-46, Technical Order No 01-25LA-1, with approx 59 pages.
  • “The Commando Manual”, dated 1 February 1944 with approx 170 pages. A technical reference manual used by Curtiss field representatives during WW2.
